چکیده

Objective—Because population-based data are lacking, we assessed the cross-sectional association between serum testosterone levels and endothelial function, as measured by flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and nitroglycerin-mediated dilation (NMD) of the brachial artery, in men from the population-based Study of Health in Pomerania. Methods and Results—Personal characteristics, including major cardiovascular confounders, were collected in 722 men, aged 25 to 85 years. Serum total testosterone and sexual hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels were determined by chemiluminescence immunoassays. Free testosterone levels were calculated according to the law of mass action. FMD and NMD measurements were performed using standardized ultrasound techniques. FMD and NMD values below the 20th percentile were considered decreased. Multivariable logistic regression analyses revealed an association for each decrement of total testosterone standard deviation (6.0 nmol/L) with decreased FMD after adjustment for potential confounders (odds ratio 1.30, 95% confidence interval 1.04–1.63; P 0.023). Multiple adjusted findings for free testosterone were similar (odds ratio 1.37, 95% confidence interval 1.06–1.76; P 0.016). There was no such association of SHBG levels with decreased FMD. Neither testosterone nor SHBG levels were significantly associated with decreased NMD. Conclusion—Lower serum total and free testosterone levels are associated with impaired endothelial function in this population-based sample of men. (Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol. 2012;32:00-00.)

P-27: The Effect of Varicocelectomy onThe Serum Testosterone Level in Infertile Men with Grade (II - III) Varicocele

Background: To determine whether men with varicoceles have lower testosterone levels than those without and to ascertain if testosterone levels increase after varicocelectomy and or to determine whether the varicocele grade is related to the degree of improvement in serum testosterone levels after varicocelectomy and also older age is associated with improvements in testosterone after varicocel...

Comparison of Sexual Function and Serum Testosterone Levels in Men Opiate Addicts, under Methadone Maintenance Therapy, and Healthy Men

Background: Substance abuse and consequently the use of methadone in Iran are reported at high levels. Drugs alter sexual function by affecting the organs of the body. The aim of this study was to evaluate sexual functioning and serum testosterone levels in opiate addicts, individuals receiving methadone maintenance treatment (MMT), and healthy men living in the city of Rafsanjan, Iran, in 2016...

P-26: Comparison of Serum Testosterone Level between Men with and without Varicocele

Background: Varicocele suggests that in addition to effects on spermatogenesis, varicocele also impairs testicular Leydig cell function with a consequential decrease in testosterone production; correction of the varicocele may result in improved serum testosterone levels. Materials and Methods: We measured preoperative serum testosterone levels in 40 infertile men with varicoceles varicocele (g...

Interrelationship between Androgen Levels, Ageing, and Cognitive Functions

As men get older, there is a decline in functioning of many biological systems; the endocrine systems share such changes in hormone levels. Ageing in men is accompanied by progressive, but individually variable decline in serum testosterone production in healthy men especially in men over 60 years of age. Androgens determine the differentiation of male internal and external genitalia as well as...
